Information about papers and posters

Papers

There are two streams of papers for the TEM Conference: refereed and not refereed. The requirements for the refereed stream are stricter, largely because the paper must meet the Government’s definition of ‘research’, and because institutions are eligible to receive output-based research funding.

  • For participants who submitted a paper abstract and have had it accepted, it will be archived in the National Library of Australia.
  • If you are submitting a paper for the refereed stream, please click here to see the content and format requirements.

Posters

A poster presentation is a visual display and an extremely useful and valuable element to a conference program.

  • It provides an alternative medium for delegates to learn about new ideas and topics and expand their knowledge about certain concepts.
  • It allows those presenters who are not confident in speaking on stage to still present an idea at the conference.
  • It means that more abstracts can be included in the conference program, with obvious benefits for everyone.
  • It provides another dynamic to the conference program.

A poster is prepared on presentation cardboard or other material. It contains some text and imagery relating to the authors idea. Photographs, diagrams and tables are useful as well. There is no limit to the font size, type or layout of the actual text but authors must bear in mind that simplicity of reading and absorbing the information is important. There are no guidelines for the layout, and authors are limited only by their own creativity.

Poster Defence/ Discussion Time
There is time allocated in the conference program for poster ‘defence’ or discussion. All authors are asked to accompany their poster during this time (approximately 30mins). This session is promoted as an opportunity for delegates to approach the author of the poster and ask questions or discuss any element of the information displayed and will usually occur in the latter half of a lunch hour to maximize such an opportunity.

Size
Posters must be no larger than 1.0m wide and 1.5m deep.
